Nieuw Ensemble succesful in Beijing
With two nearly sold out concerts in the new National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing the Nieuw Ensemble made history. For the first time since the opening in 2007 of the "Egg", housing both a concert hall and operahouse, a concert exclusively dedicated to new music was presented.
The Nieuw Ensemble played works that were composed especially for the ensemble by famous chinese composers such as Tan Dun, Guo Wenjing and Chen Qigang, classics by european masters such as Boulez, Berio and Donatoni, and work by Takemitsu, Mayke Nas and Guus Janssen. The visit to Beijing was launced by a public rehearsal for 400 school children and music students.
The concert was supported by the Netherlands China Arts Foundation.
